1. How soon can I graduate?

To answer this question, compare your transcript to the list of requirements for graduation. Your transcript lists all the courses you have taken in high school and the grades you have earned in each class.

2. Can I go back to school after missing a lot?

The need to care for family or to get a job, difficulties learning online, and illness kept many students from attending school or completing assignments the last couple school years. However, it’s not too late to earn a high school diploma. There are many ways to make up the credits you need to graduate and resources to help you succeed.

3. How do I make up classes I failed?

Students who started a semester but didn’t finish all the assignments for one or more of their courses by the end of the semester may receive an “incomplete” or failing grade for the courses, depending on the practices at the schools. You may be able to get support from your school to complete assignments to pass or may need to repeat a course.

4. How do I get a GED?

The General Education Development test is a computer-based assessment that measures your high school level knowledge and skills. When you pass the GED exam, you earn a state high school diploma recognizing that you have a high school level of education. The GED is recognized and accepted by nearly all U.S. colleges, employers, and universities.

5. What school can I attend?

JCPS offers several different types of high schools and high school programs to meet the learning needs of students. You have a voice in the school you attend and while you may not always get your “first choice”, learning about your options and sharing your goals and interests is important!

6. Are there ways to graduate that are non-traditional?

There are many ways to earn a high school credential and prepare for college or a career. While the most common path is to attend a four-year public high school, there are other pathways for students who want to graduate in less than four years, who have fallen behind on credits. or want to pair their education with job training or employment.

Your education goals are important! If you want to earn a college degree or certificate, there are ways to get there even if high school has been challenging or non-traditional.

8. Can I get help with online classes?

Learning online has its advantages. Students can work at their own pace and watch video lectures or read notes as often as they need. Virtual classes also avoid some of the social stresses that occur in face-to-face classes. But online class can also be challenging. Help is available.

9. How can I get help with tutoring or other academic needs?

Many students have forgotten foundational knowledge or skills and need some extra academic supports to catch up. Other students may qualify for extra time completing assignments or taking tests. Schools are required to provide the individual supports students need.
